No Nukes is Good Nukes is the eighth episode of the first season of Family Ties. It aired on November 24, 1982.

Plot Edit

The family is getting ready for Thanksgiving.  Steven and Elyse plan to attend a rally to protest nuclear arms, which opens a conversation about Alex's opposition to nuclear disarmament.  Elyse's parents, Kate and Charlie (played by Priscilla Morrill and Dick Sargent, respectively) come for Thanksgiving, and Charlie scoffs at Steven and Elyse's continued desire to go to protests.

Later a news report come across the TV: "Trouble broke out this afternoon at the Blackstone Nuclear Research Laboratory", and Steven and Elyse are seen being arrested (and they refuse to sign a waiver of their right to protest further in order to go home).  Unlike Charlie, Kate stands up for Steven and Elyse's position.  Everybody shows up at jail with Thanksgiving dinner.

Quotes Edit

Trivia Edit

  • The title is a pun on the phrase "No News is Good News".
  • Alex ends up in jail in "Ladies' Man" and acts much like Steven and Elyse did in this episode.
